What Is 24902 + A Million?

24902 + A Million is a global Demand/Supply/Distribution/Sustain project to provide wheelchairs and other mobility aids to tens of millions of people in the World who need them. Instead of inviting cash donations, we are negotiating with major global organisations who run customer loyalty programmes so you can donate your loyalty points to help change a life. I am working with Helen Edwards from Australia and together we are about Achieving Results Together (ART) and we have started.

24902 + A Million is also an initiative whereby a challenge has been set to pledge / provide  1,024,902 wheelchairs / equipment to change a life by the 1st March 2013 – International Wheelchair Day.

Based on the World Health Organisation estimates, we need around 100 Million wheelchairs globally. Let’s start with just over a million by next year.

The project name 24902 + A Million  name came about as Helen and I are members of Virgin Unite 24902, the community who are committed to making change happen started by Virgin Unite and Richard Branson to develop entrepreneurial approaches to solve problems that others haven’t or cannot address.

The Earth is 24,902 miles in circumference at the Equator, hence the inspirational name chosen for Virgin Unite 24902, who strive to involve an active global community along every one of those 24,902 miles. Using entrepreneurial approaches and collaboration Virgin Unite is employing business-based solutions to tackle problems like youth homelessness, unemployment and health and environmental crises – the 24902 group is joining forces to drive change in the world.

There is a rule:  To be counted towards our 1,024,902 wheelchair / equipment target, the build must at a minimum meet the guidelines on the provision of manual wheelchairs in less-resourced settings set by the World Health Organisation.

Thank you so much to American Express who are already on board.

This model is completely transparent, from identification of the need to the supply and delivery of the equipment, there is no cash changing hands, the intermediatary is a website that you can follow from when you choose the person to the time the equipment is provided. No admin fees, office overheads, paying people to collect cash, it is converting your points into a life changing need.

Totally tangible and transparent. Achieving a real result to help make the ‘Right for Real’ for millions all over the world.

Your contribution will change the World.

Thank You!

Steve and Helen
